For the moment you lay out the fabric
Notch lives on the iPad or laptop that's mirrored to your projector, and it turns the pattern PDF you already bought into lines of light on the mat, the right size and the right way up, so you can lay the fabric down, smooth it out and cut along them.
Each pattern piece can be projected on its own and moved, turned and flipped into place on the fabric, and a piece that's cut on the fold can be mirrored out into its whole shape, so what's on the mat is exactly what you're about to cut. Your project stays where you left it, pieces ticked off and all, so a half-cut garment is waiting for you the next day.
How a cut goes
- 1
Calibrate
Match four corners to your mat once, and the grid lands at true size every time after.
- 2
Open the PDF
Projector files open as they are, with every size on its own layer, and A4 tiles can be joined into one sheet when that's all you have.
- 3
Mark the pieces
Tap inside each piece once to pick it out and name it, and it stays marked with the pattern.
- 4
Place each piece
Project one piece at a time, turn it onto the grain, flip it, or mirror a fold piece into its whole shape.
- 5
Cut and tick
Tick each piece off as it's cut, so you always know what's left to do.
